I can't believe it's been a year since I first started blogging. At the very end of 2006 I was surfing the Internet for freelance writing jobs, at the time I was writing and selling articles, stories, and poetry. I came across Deborah Ng's writing website, and after visiting there for about a week I figured out that it was blog.
At the time I thought that blogs were personal diaries, not real websites. I had no idea that you could actually have your own website that others would read. I decided I had to have a blog of my own!
I could hardly figure out how to post. I had no idea what words like "archive" and "template" meant. It took me three days before I figured out how to download a picture. It was a completely foreign area to me but I was determined to figure it all out.
It took a few months but eventually I did get the hang of blogging, and now I have quite a few blogs on the go, but I'm still learning, and I'm still working on figuring out how best to add value to the blogoshpere.
This past year has gone by quickly and I already have some great blogging memories, so here's a look back at the Coffee Break Highlights of 2007:
January 2007 - Erryn Barratt, from Surrey, British Columbia wins the Cute Pet Photo Contest with this adorable picture:

January 2007 - Lisa Timpf from Everett Ontario, wins the Poetry Contest with her poem:
Other Green Worlds
Do other green worlds roam
Around some far-off sun
That men, of sorts, call home?
Do other green worlds roam
Where oceans surge and foam
And thinking has begun?
Do other green worlds roam
Around some far-off sun?
Do other green worlds roam
Around some far-off sun
That men, of sorts, call home?
Do other green worlds roam
Where oceans surge and foam
And thinking has begun?
Do other green worlds roam
Around some far-off sun?
April 17, 2007 - One of my Coffee Break winners sends me a very inspiring email.

February 2007 - Lorette Luzajic wins the Love Story Contest with her amazing short story, The Fall.

February 18, 2007 - I discovered the Law of Attraction when I heard about the book, The Secret on Oprah. I can't tell you how these principles have changed my life, it's amazing.

May 3rd 2007 - The day I figured out that the higher your page rank is the better. (I thought zero was the best) - Can you believe it?
May 8th 2007 - I created my first Meme, In The Spotlight, I'm sure it annoyed many people but hopefully it entertained a few too!

August 6th 2007 - I finally reached the Top Ten Thousand at Technorati, I even went on to become an A-List blogger reaching the magical number of 500. I then got tired of 24 hour day blog promotion, lost links, and went back to being a B-Lister where I now blog in peace. (I'm not giving back the A-Lister badge though - no way).

Best of all, I've met some great friends this past year, like Judy, Mike, Ann, Tish, Mark, Polli, Markk, Misty, Jo, Daniel, BetShopBoy, Bobby, Dawn, Roger, Brown, Aaron, Andrew, Jos, Princess Haiku, Santa, Bucky, Robert, and so many, many more!!!!
Happy New Year to all of my friends and readers, thank you to everyone who comes by to visit, may all of your dreams come true in 2008!

Happy New Year Christy!!!!! I want you to know something. You are one of the very few bloggers that work hard in both earning income (the right way), and being a true friend to your fellow bloggers. That is a very difficult thing to do...maybe not for you...you make it look easy.
Me...I have so many hang ups and inner turmoil, I am growing and learning though...it isn't easy to change...haha!!!
It does wear a blogger out to keep up all the endless linking...like with technorati. One thing I learned is that technorati links only count for 180 days. I was in the top 5000 but since I no longer "work it"...it's rising. I thought you stayed there. That is a disappointment but I feel great knowing it is just a number that we can control. I'm trying to get back to zero...hahaha!!!!
Anyway..you have been a great friend and I really wish you the best new year ever:):):)
Hi Bobby, thank you so much! I appreciate that! It's funny, I tried so hard to get up in the rankings but I soon realized that I get much more satisfaction with writing something good then with how many people are linking to me.
Blogging wouldn't be fun without the friends, and I wouldn't do it without getting paid (too much work, lol), this year I hope to do more charity posts, and work more on publishing print work (not just online).
I know you'll figure things out for yourself, it takes time to find your true groove. You're an awesome writer, and a great friend, and I hope you have a very happy New Year! Hugs:)
Thanks for dropping byy Christy...I find all kinds of good stuff when I drop by here...and a special thankyou for the encouragement in the past..I have two posts into Chicken Soup for the Soul thanks to you...I haven't heard anything back but it was an accomplishment for me just to get that far..Thankyou..and a big redneck smile to you...:)
Christy,
Great great post that's a fun little timeline into the blogging life of Christy. Thanks so much for sharing it. And I wish you and your entire family the happiest of New Years. Hope you're out having fun and that 2008 is even better than it's predecessor. And it has to be because starting in February... it's the Year of the Rat! Woo!
Happy New Year Christy! You're one of the the sweetest treats I've found Blogging for sure!
Hugs!
Happy New Year Christy, I hope this year is even better than the last for you! :)
Hi Christy-
Happy New Year. Great post. I knew you had it when I wrote your Rising Blogger review. I think you were wise to forget the "A" list. It's WAY too much work...
You are a wonderful friend and person, Christy, and your story is so inspiring. One of these days, I hope do have the chance to get some words of advice and coaching from you.
I wish you a 2008 year that is as wonderful as you are, and I look forward to spending the year blogging with you!
Hi Robert,
That is so fantastic! I'm glad you did it, that's awesome.
It can take a very long time to hear back from any publisher especially one as busy as Chicken Soup.
Your stories are great! So keep sending those babies out! I just know you'll get published. :)
Hi Andrew,
The year of the rat??
AWESOME
Now we can take over the universe!
LoL. I hope you and your family had a great New Years, and here we are...2008..I hope you have a fantastic year too! Hugs:)
Hi Judy,
Thank you, that's so nice! Hugs, and I hope you and your family have a great year ahead! :)
Hi AntiBarbie,
Thank you, and I hope you have an even better year in 2008 too! Hugs:)
Hi Bud,
I didn't know you were a Rising Blogger! It's like I live in a cave or something, lol.
If being a top blogger happens on its own - great - but my top priority this year is working on my writing.
Hugs:) Hope you're enjoying the beginning of a great New Year.
Hi Misty,
Thank you, I think you're wonderful too!
I think the hardest part about giving blogging advice is that there's just too much to give. The best advice I could give anyone is study Problogger.net. The guy knows what he's doing!
Happy New Year to you and your family - 2008 is finally here! Hugs:)
Happy New Year!
Christy - Congrats on a great year! I really enjoyed this post and I too had a different view of blogging before I got into it. Needless to say, I had no idea it would be the best thing that would happen to my sites. (#):)
Best of luck in 2007 buddy!
