Senior Thrown Out Of Prom For Too Revealing Dress - Would You Have Let Her In Or Given Her The Boot?

How skimpy is too skimpy is the question on people's minds after hearing the story of Marche Taylor. The Texas high school senior was not allowed to attend her prom after showing up in a revealing gold dress.

As she entered the lobby of the Sugar Land Marriott she quickly caught the eye of school officials and was denied entry into the prom even after she offered to cover up.

School officials say that the sexy dress violated the school's dress code. To top off the evening the police were called and Taylor was escorted out of the building in handcuffs. Not exactly the dream prom, that's for sure.

So what do you think? Should Marche Taylor have been allowed to attend her prom or did officials make the right decision?

I think it is a judgment call. I saw the dress, and if I had a daughter I would not have let her wear it. It all starts at home with mom and dad.

Listening to the video, I gotta agree with the girl's comment - "They didn't give me any options." Inappropriate dress plus inappropriate school response equals unwelcome news coverage.

I think it's a difficult situation.

Young Adults need to be given freedom for expression otherwise full on rebellion and often a downward spiral can occur. Young adults ends up caught up in rage and rebellion rather than using their full potential to improve this world, if stopped from doing certain things.

I think the issue lies somewhere else. She should have been let into the prom.

The questions we need to ask.... why do young girls feel the need to show themselves so explicitly sexually to the world? Is it mass media or just the current style? Is this damaging or liberating?

It's a long windy debatable path with no real outcome for another 10 years or so! You could dedicate a whole blog to these dilemas.....

Hi Family Man,

Yes, definitely. Someone should have stopped her and explained what happens when you dress that way - especially when going to a school event!

Hi Elaine,

If I were the school official I would have lent her a sweater and let her go in. The girl had very bad judgment but she did graduate and should get to celebrate.

Hi Forest:)

I can tell you why girls do it, it's for attention, plain and simple. Women get attention for showing their body. Both positive and negative attention. But this is no way to make yourself feel better about yourself, not if it makes other people (fellow students/teachers) uncomfortable.

You raised some great questions, personally I don't think it's liberating, because it's easy to take off your clothes and get noticed.

I'd rather be noticed for the things I do, for what I do for others than to just wear a tiny t-shirt - but to each their own.

The dress may not have been appropriate, but I still don't understand why she wasn't allowed in after volunteering to cover up. There are a lot of prom dresses out there to choose from, but I have to agree...choosing this one was all about the attention
